As Zandari Festa 2018 draws near, we at Rock N Seoul wanted to give readers the opportunity to learn more about the artists who’ll be bringing Hongdae to its knees for one of the city’s most unforgettable annual music events.
No one can deny the absolute power of rock trio PAKK. Their music hits hard, a punch to the gut and slap in the face in case you were sleeping. The magic and mayhem in Kim Daeinn’s voice is enough to make you find religion if you proclaimed yourself without any sort of faith. Truly, it’s an astonishing feat just how much sound comes out of a drum, a bass, and an electric guitar. But these guys have found a way to fill even the biggest venues with more sound than they can possibly contain. As another gift to us at Rock N’ Seoul, the man himself took time out of his pre-festa schedule to answer some questions for us.
What is the most exciting part of Zandari Festa?
Getting to meet up with so many people. This festival is a lot of fun every year and brings together so much great music. I’m really excited for the bill we’re on at Rolling Hall on October 6. Pakk, Fecundation, Hellivision, Vassline is a really great lineup, and if you want to listen to real Korean rock music, you definitely need to go there!
What makes your music unique?
I don’t know. We make the music we want to make. Hopefully people like what they hear.
What did you want to be when growing up?
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a cartoonist. I don’t work as a cartoonist now, but I do make posters for our shows and create our album artwork. I also make our animated music videos. And on a personal level I released an illustrated book a few months ago. Although I couldn’t be a cartoonist, drawing and painting in my life is just as important as music.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t be fooled. Don’t be afraid. Most things that happen are no big deal. Oh, and remember — don’t listen to Nirvana or other rock music because it’s going to lead to all kinds of shenanigans!
What is the most important thing you want people attending Zandari Festa to know about you and your music?
The most important thing is for them to come to our showcase. We’ll put all of our energy into playing our music. I think it will be a great way at experience Pakk.
If you could be a super hero, what would be your name and your power?
I’d have telekinesis and be able to move things with my mind regardless of how big they area. I’d even be able to lift my own body and fly in the sky. And my name would be Pakk!
