As Zandari Festa 2018 draws near, we at Rock N Seoul wanted to give readers the opportunity to learn more about the artists who’ll be bringing Hongdae to its knees for one of the city’s most unforgettable annual music events.
Full Garage plays hard and fast, yet their sound is incredibly nostalgic. Whatever they give in all-out thrash they give equally in passion and pure grit. In the midst of getting prepared for their Zandari showcase, bassist and lead vocalist Lee Keunyoung took a few minutes to answer some questions for Rock N Seoul.
What is the most exciting part of Zandari Festa?
Lots of free beer, lots of cool bands from around the world, and lots of new audience members that usually never come to our shows.
What makes your music unique?
We play ’90s-style fast, melodic punk. This kind of music has become old-fashioned now, but I grew up listening to it and still love it. There are very few bands left in Korea that are playing ’90s-style punk rock. Full Garage is one of them and you still love that style of music too, then please come to our show. It’ll be really fun!
What did you want to be when growing up?
I don’t think I’m grown up now! All I’ve wanted to do for a really long time is make music and keep playing in bands for as long as I can.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t listen to any bullshit and follow what you think is right. Oh, and don’t get married!
What is the most important thing you want people attending Zandari Festa to know about you and your music?
Our songs are very fast, vert short, very melodic, and I think sometimes very ridiculous. If that sounds interesting to you, then come to our show, listen and experience it for yourself. That’s the most important part.
If you could be a super hero, what would be your name and your power?
I’d have the power to turn water into beer. Hmm … if I could do that, I wouldn’t be a superhero – I’d be almost like a saint! Saint Keunyoung has a nice ring to it.
Full Garage play at Club Steel Face on Friday, October 5 at 9 p.m.
