Everyone and their mother by now knows that SLEEQ has become one of my favorite rappers from Korea. Her flow is deliberate and powerful. But very few realize she’s also a brilliant producer and composer. On November 2, she decided to completely blast my mind with her turn on the Stevie Wonder classic Overjoyed. It’s no exaggeration to say I was on the verge of tears.
Her use of harmony, the simple keyboard melody…. Everything about this cover is pure magic. She’s no singer by any means, but she’s got the vision and the talent to make this one of the more mesmerizing covers I’ve ever heard.
