Zandari Festa Interview: Laybricks

One band I’ve been following for awhile and was bummed to miss last year when I was at Zandari is Laybricks. They’ve been making waves in the Korean scene for a few years and they even did a pretty extensive tour this year in the UK including a stint at Liverpool Sound City. I’m always impressed by the power and level of sound this explosive duo can make all by themselves. We got them to answer a few questions before the fun and chaos of Zandari starts this weekend. All questions are answered by drummer Hyejin.

We’d love to get an introduction to your band in your own words. Will you tell us who makes up your band, and how you describe your style of music?

Our band features two members. I play drums and Kwangmin plays guitar. I think our music has a wide range. We just make the music we want and have no fear about how it will sound. When I write songs, I always write about the feelings I felt.

What does being invited to play at Zandari Festa 2017 mean to you?

Zandari is the best festival in this country. Of course we have lots of festivals in Korea, but Zandari is special. Over the course of three days, there are lots and lots of gigs in Hongdae. Musicians can meet and make friends with many other bands and with music business people from all over the world too. This will be our third time playing Zandari Festa. We’re always thankful to this festival for helping us to create good opportunities for Laybricks.

What is the best part of Zandari Festa for you?

The opening party, our showcase, and of course the after party at the end of the festival. After making new friends all weekend long, the after party is a fantastic time where we can all drink and have fun together.

Who do you want to see play at Zandari Festa this year?

The Lemons and Rival Bones. I watched both of those bands on YouTube and loved what I saw. I also want to recommend Korean bands like DTSQ, National Pigeon Unity, Sons of Tigers, Wasted Johnny’s, and Phonebooth. Most of the Korean bands in this year’s Zandari lineup are really great!

What can people at Zandari Festa expect from your performance?

They can expect to see our great chemistry onstage. We hope that they feel a lot of positive energy and listening to all our good songs and seeing our performance.

Laybricks will be performing at Club Steel Face on Saturday, October 1st from 20:00-21:00 (8-9pm).

You can find out more about them on their Facebook page, find venue information on the Zandari Festa page, and buy their music on iTunes.
