If there’s one genre that challenges my love of soul and R&B, it’s House and all its progeny. When I tell you I almost fell to the floor into a fit of convulsions when I first listened to Iglooghost…! It’s like what was I ever doing with my life to not know this man existed?
I don’t 100 percent remember how I even came across Iglooghost, but news of this experimental House electronica DJ’s latest effort found its way into my periphery, and I jotted his name down as someone to look into — never heard of him, didn’t know what he did, but his name fascinated me.
Well, that fascination has turned into a full-blown obsession. He has several EPs to his name, including 2015’s explosive triumph Chinese Nü Year, but only one full-length album (this year’s Neō Wax Bloom). He’s certainly made a name for himself as one of the most innovative DJ/producers to come out of Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label.
A clear disciple of the musical god, Iglooghost has suddenly become the most important artist from Europe I’ll listen to in 2017, and I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do with myself now that I’ve discovered his existence.
