There’s nothing quite like someone who has a keen mastery of their mother tongue, a knife’s edge wit, and a rapacious appetite for absolutely shredding listeners with their flow, power, and musicality.
I came across G Yamazawa on a whim. I was listening to another hip-hop album (don’t ask me to try to remember which), and my recommendations offered this dude. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. One of the hardest MCs I’ve heard recently wasn’t it. It’s no surprise the North Carolina native is such a beast with his tongue gymnastics. He’s toured the country as as spoken-word phenomenon — having earned the title National Slam Poet Champion and the distinguished position of Cultural Diplomat for the Department of State.
But honestly that’s almost inconsequential to just how powerful he is as a rapper. He slings that Southern rap around like it’s a weapon. His flow is sweet and heady, like biscuits and gravy, and he has a lyricism that’ll knock you on your ass.
Do yourself a favor and listen to this man. You’ll thank me later.
