Zandari Festa Interview: Wasted Johnny’s

I don’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings, but Wasted Johnny’s may be the best modern blues I’ve heard come out of Korea. A couple years ago I swore I’d given my heart to another blues-fusion band called IAMNOT, and to be honest they’ve not actually relinquished it. However, when I first heard Angie An, the lead singer and guitarist, the band immediately had my soul. What a thrill and a blessing it is to hear them introduce themselves in their own words. All the answers are given by vocalist Angie An.

We’d love to get an introduction to your band in your own words. Will you tell us who makes up your band, and how you describe your style of music?

Hi, we are Wasted Johnny’s. We’re a four-piece rock band that includes me (vocals and guitar), YJ (drums), Yoon (bass), and Seon (guitar). We play raw and energetic rock ‘n’ roll mixed with blues and garage.

What does being invited to play at Zandari Festa 2017 mean to you?

It means the possibility of new opportunities. Zandari Festa is a great way to introduce your music and communicate with other musicians and delegates from many different countries. This year, we were able to embark on our first UK tour because of the contact we’d made at Zandari Festa 2016. We’re looking forward to Zandari Festa 2017 and hope it helps us create more chances to do cool things with our band.

What is the best part of Zandari Festa for you?

The best part is meeting lots of new people from all over the world. And the opening party and closing party are really fun too!

Who do you want to see play at Zandari Festa this year?

I want to go and see the British Night and French Night showcases. And I want to see The Twistettes, a two-piece garage band from Glasgow.

What can people at Zandari Festa expect from your performance?

Endless energy, rough music and a very raw version of me. You must come. Let’s get fucking wasted!

Wasted Johnnys will be playing at Club Crack on Friday, September 29 from 21:00 (9PM) to 22:00.
