Today I’m introducing a new feature here on Rock ‘N Seoul. Despite what our name suggests, we’re not all completely obsessed with Korean music to the detriment of enjoying anything from other countries. The truth is quite the opposite. Our mutual love of Korean music brought us all together – but we all really dig stuff from all over the world. This new feature -going forward to be called our “Out of the Box” segments, is used to feature music similar to what we love in Korea, but to allow our readers to expand their horizons and see what else is out there. So, let’s get to it, shall we?
First up, I have a band that is fairly new, and new to me. I’ve been jamming to them for the last 6 weeks or so, ever since I found them. Yonige is a duo from Japan making light, up-beat rock tunes that will have you happily tapping your toes in an instant. I chanced upon them after YouTube decided to play them after another video – and I had to immediately go find their album. This is the video – for their song “Avocado” that released last year, off their first EP Coming Spring.
Yonige is made up of vocalist and guitarist Arisa and the bassist stylings / backing vocals of Gokkin. They just released their second EP Katatsumuri Ni Naritai last month.
You can follow Yonige only on Twitter for now – they have yet to create a Facebook page.
